Hi, I'm Kevin.
I grew up in the small town of Livermore, CA, and was raised by a small family. From a young age, I learned to look at my neighbors, friends, and classmates as family.
When I was 12, I felt like something was missing in my life. So I asked my dad if we could start going to local churches. Since then, my faith has informed my two core truths: that everyone is invaluable and everyone is interconnected. This, in turn, informs all that I do.
In college, I learned that social capital has been on the decline in the US since the 1960s. In graduate school, I discovered that disasters are responsible for the social capital shifts in society, and can bring us together or tear us apart. So I wrote a book explaining this.
TL;DR I never learned the word stranger, and live accordingly.
